ELIZABETH SAWYER NORTON (AMERICAN, 1887-1985)
Elizabeth Sawyer Norton was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 16, 1887. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1910, followed by the National Academy of Design in New York City, the Art Students’ League under Frank DuMond, and the Chase School. After her first visit to California in 1915 to attend the Panama Pacific International Exposition she decided to relocate. She moved to Palo Alto, California in 1919 where she lived until her death on August 7, 1985. Norton was an accomplished painter, sculptor, and printmaker. She was a member of many art associations and has an impressive list of exhibitions. Richard C.
