Richard C. Frey, ISA CAPP
Richard C. Frey, ISA CAPP (International Society of Appraisers Certified Appraiser of Personal Property) began collecting art when he was just a boy of twelve years. He grew up surrounded by professional and pastime painters. His mother manipulated oil paint into compelling and grand landscapes and his sister made her living for a time as an artist. But perhaps one of the largest factors to influence the direction Richard's life would take was his neighbor, John Warren "Pop" Doty (1870-1959). Biographical Reference: "Artists in California" by Edan Hughes. After school Richard joined "Pop" in his painting studio and watched in awe as he created familiar landscapes of Mount Shasta, Yosemite, and others. Richard's love of the pieces is evident when he speaks about his collection of Doty paintings. Many years later, Richard has acquired an art collection that could rival that of a museum. However, the panoramic painting of Mount Shasta by "Pop" Doty is still one of his favorite pieces. This painting is an incredible juxtaposition of honoring Mother Nature by placing each rock on the mountain in its proper place, but inventing and rearranging the trees in the foreground for aesthetic purposes. This incredible piece hangs in Richard's private office where he can enjoy it every day. It only seems fitting that the banner at the top of his website features his favorite painting.
